Working Man's Blues

I would like to thank the Boston Red Sox for preventing the Rays from claiming Johnny Damon off the waiver wire. He has decided to stay in Detroit and I wish him all the best.

Say goodbye to Mannywood. The Dodgers appear to be ready to part with the aging Ramirez. I don’t believe Tampa Bay would touch Manny and his fat contract unless the Dodgers were willing to eat a very big portion of his deal. The White Sox have the money and are just desperate enough to take on Manny and all his baggage. Good luck Chicago, you’re gonna need it.

With the Rays running out of options and money it would seem to me the answer is right in their own backyard. Rocco Baldelli is once again battling his way back in an attempt to rejoin Tampa Bay’s line up.
Rocco is at the present time on rehab assignment with the Durham Bulls, where he is hitting .333 with 2 homers and 7 rbi’s in 27 plate appearances.
Baldelli was diagnosed with mitochondrial disorder, a condition that causes chronic pain and fatigue midway through the ’07 season. Since then he has continued fighting his way back to the show. A bout with channelopathy disorder slowed his progress earlier this year, but the man has worked through the pain and now is on the threshold of making yet another comeback.
According to Coach Maddon, calling up Rocco was the plan from the beginning and although nothing has been finalized, the Rays skipper remains confident that Baldelli will be an asset to the team as a leader in the clubhouse as well as against left handed pitching.
I’m not sure how all this is going to work out, but if inspiration means anything in the game of baseball, the Yankees are in for a rough October.

  1. Hey aero, good reading ya! I had the Rays in the Series since about midway through spring training. Had them playing the Dodgers but that won't happen. I'll have them playing the Padres instead. Rays win a thrilling Series in seven games.

  2. He Jon,

It's gonna be tough, but the Rays have the tools and experience to make a run at the pennant.
I like the Padres also, they are going to suprise a lot of people. They remind me of the '08 Rays team. Should be interesting.
    Thanks for dropping by.

  3. Aero!

I'm sure glad the Rays didn't make a BIG mistake and bring in baseball's Terrell Owens... Manny Ramirez. I heard those rumors and couldn't believe it. I think baseball's talking heads just wish ill will on the Rays. It appears the owner and his top people have learned not to listen, thank goodness!

Johnny Damon is a money monger. The Rays couldn't afford him and he knew it... Damon needs to get back together with the multi-millionaire's club known as the New York Yankees!

The Ray's just made an interesting move. They signed Brad Hawpe to a minor league deal. He's an outfielder from the Colorado Rockies. An All-Star for the NL in 2009 his production fell off in '10 (he's still batted .251). Not sure why he was cut loose or why nobody else jumped up to take him. Sounds like the Rays may try him at first base down the road. I think good ol Carlos "Gotta hit a homer" Pena is going to be down the road next year.

Sorry so late on your article.

  4. Hey Dwindy,
The only way that the Rays would've been tempted to sign Manny was if they could have rented him cheap. I'm glad Damon was off the board, he would have been a waste of money. I heard about Hawpe, I hope he can get his swing back, the Rays could use him. I like Pena, but his batting average is just too low.
    Thanks for the visit.
